As the country shifts back towards normalcy in a post-pandemic recovery, athletic directors, coaches, and athletes everywhere are wondering what sports will look like in the upcoming school year. On May 15, 2020, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) created guidelines to help answer that question.
Guidance for Opening Up High School Athletics and Activities. (pdf download)
The guideline addresses three phases of re-instating high school athletics. Each phase lists requirements under five categories: Pre-workout Screening, Limitations on Gatherings, Facilities Cleaning, Physical Activity and Athletic Equipment, and Hydration. Putting a plan together for conducting athletics and activities can certainly present some challenges, but districts can rely on resources like Facilitron to help navigate the unknowns.

Learn MoreHow Facilitron Can Help
The Facilitron platform can streamline the process of having high school athletics and activities on campus. Here’s how:
- All events, both internal and external, can be easily tracked in the system. Facilitron customer support teams can configure your account with pre-workout screening requirements and new district policies for each reopening phase. Screening documentation and hold harmless forms can be attached and stored with the reservation in the system. Permits are issued and can be used for ticketing.
- Attendance limits on gatherings can be tracked and enforced using attendee data reported by the platform. Triggers can be put in place based on number of attendees—to include things like: the number of available spaces, type of cleaning, and social distancing requirements.
- Facility cleaning can be scheduled as a rule-based service tied directly to each reservation or as a stand-alone work order using Facilitron work orders. Additional costs can be added for external events to cover supply and employee time.
- Physical activity and athletic equipment guidelines can be attached to each reservation—with rule based set up and cleaning requirements for the custodial staff automatically generated on the Facilitron platform.
